Omafiets is hiring! We are looking for someone (who does not identify as a cis-man) to take on a bicycle mechanic traineeship (Certificate III in Bicycle Workshop Operations). We are looking for a long-term employee who we can train to become a bicycle mechanic.
It's essential that you are:
-passionate about bikes
-good with your hands
-a quick learner who can follow written instructions, video tutorials etc.
-an independent learner (there is homework for this qualification!)
-organised and punctual
-accepting of constructive criticism
It would be desirable if:
-you have experience making or building things, tinkering, or taking things apart and putting them back together
-you regularly ride a bike for transport, or if you don't, you are interested in doing so
No bike shop experience is required.
The traineeship is anticipated to take one year, commencing Feb 2021 (we're a bit flexible with the start date). Currently the workshop hours are Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm. There is a probationary period of three months, during which time the hourly rate of pay will be $17.20/hr (the trainee rate). After that time, the hourly rate of pay will rise to $25.42/hr. This is a permanent full-time position (4 days also a possibility), with sick leave, paid annual leave, and superannuation.
To apply, please email your resume (or just some information about yourself) to [email protected] by 8am Monday 25/01/21.
Q: I'm a man, can I apply for this?
A: Sorry, this traineeship is only open to people who don't identify as men. There are lots of men working in the bike industry and not as many opportunities for others, especially in the workshop.
Q: I have no bike mechanic skills but I'm really into bikes, should I apply?
A: Yes! We can teach you bike mechanic skills. It's more important to have an interest in bikes.
